Welcome New Church Member!

It has to be a wonderful feeling to know you are part of a universal body which had its beginning in doctrine and practice with Jesus Christ himself (Matthew 16:18).

Before returning to the Father, Jesus gave two sets of instructions to His disciples that encapsulate and summarize what His church is to be and to do: the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 19-20).

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

The Great Commandment and the Great Commission assign five duties to every believer in Jesus Christ: to love the Lord with all your heart; to love your neighbor as yourself; to go and make disciples; to baptize the saved; and to teach the saved to obey everything Christ has commanded. These duties are the tasks that Christ has ordained for His church to accomplish. The Bethel Missionary Baptist Church is committed to fulfilling all five tasks.

Bethel church membership brings you great opportunities to satisfy your obligation to participate in and contribute toward the accomplishment of Christ’s Great Commandment and Great Commission.

·    Fellowship in fine company

·    Christian growth and development

·    Christian service

Joining the Bethel family also places upon you an obligation that is inescapable – an obligation to make the church a total part of your life.  This is an obligation to use your time and talents for the glory of God; an obligation to support the church’s work with your presence, your influence.

Being a church member is rewarding and exciting. We pray that you will continue to grow in the Lord and continue to life His Holy name.

May God richly bless you,

The Board of Deacons

ACCEPT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus gave instructions (a commission) to His church. This commission involves three duties and a mighty promise.

-     As a Church we are to be Witness –

Duty #1: Work of Missions – “Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations.” (Also see Acts 1:8).  Tell everybody that Jesus saves! Opportunities exist here at Bethel through the mission work of the Church (Local and Foreign Missions).

-     As a Church we are to Baptize the Saved –

Duty #2: Baptizing the disciple ones of all nations – “baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Spirit)” Baptism signifies three things: (1) Salvation was wrought by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4); (2) you are dead to sin and have arisen to walk in a newness of life; and (3) you have a hope of the resurrection of the body from the grave at Jesus’ return in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

-     As a Church we are to Teach Observance of All that Christ Commanded

Duty #3: - “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”

This is the basic duty. Before one can do the best mission work, before one can teach and understand the meaning of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper as well as other privileges and responsibilities of church membership, we must be taught in the things Jesus commanded. We are not only supposed to study the things that He has commanded, but study to know how to do the things Jesus commanded.

-     As a Church we are to Claim a Mighty Promise

“Lo, I am with you always!” If we perform the three duties, the Lord performs His mighty promise. He never fails!

Repeatedly remind yourself that Jesus said. “Without me ye can do nothing?" (John 15:5)

In the face of every task to which the Spirit leads you recall and rely upon the great truth, "I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13)
